It is being hailed as a "facelift in a jar" and women are clambering to get their hands on it.

Athena 7 Minute Lift anti-wrinkle cream was only launched here this week, but the website has already had 200,000 orders.

Released in the US three years ago, it was handed out to celebs at this year's star-studded Golden Globe Awards in Hollywood. As its name suggests, the cream promises results in just seven minutes and works by temporarily "freezing" the skin and plumping it up. A US study claimed it reduced the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles by 84 per cent.

The effect only lasts seven to ten hours after the first few applications, but it is claimed continued use can produce long-term results. The cream is made using 12 organic oils, but it is a substance called acetyl hexapeptide-3 that produces the freezing effect.

Belinda Sharrier, 46, a PA from Ilford in Essex said: "After a minute you could feel it tingling and my skin started to feel tighter. Afterwards it felt smoother and you could see a difference in the fine lines around my eyes.

"It is expensive, but you only use a very small amount. If the jar last for 60 days as it claims, I think it's worth investing in it"
